Outmatched: 4 Very Hard AI - SC2 Achievement

This video — originally published on March 26th, 2012 on the Gaming Room channel — showcases a classic StarCraft II strategy to defeat 4 Very Hard AIs in a 1 vs 4 custom match, using a specific cannon rush setup on the Megaton map. The replay was recorded on patch 1.4.3, and at the time the tactic worked very reliably.

Originally, the strategy described here as as simple as: “in this cannon rush, you can’t just enter the enemy base and build your pylon. In new patches, workers are smarter, and they will stop your rush. You must build the pylon at the bottom of the ramp. Try to place your buildings in the same place as shown in this video“.

However, over the years, AI behavior and balance changes have evolved, and there’s no guarantee that this exact execution still works the same way today. However, cannon rushing is still a viable strategy in 2025, and many players report that it can still work against AIs or unprepared opponents — though it now depends more on precise building placement, micro, and a favorable map.

We’re keeping this post online here for archival purposes and nostalgia, as it documents a fun slice of SC2 history from a very specific era of the game for us @ Old Miser. But if you currently play StarCraft II and know of updated versions, tweaks, or modern alternatives to complete the 1 vs 4 Very Hard AI achievement, feel free to share your insight in the comments so others can benefit from newer strategies.
