SkyPal is a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that brings Pokémon-inspired mechanics to Bethesda’s action-RPG, a rather unique and surprising proposal. Developed by kuroishitam, it was initially released on July 14, 2025.
The mod adds a complete system for capturing, training, and battling alongside the game’s creatures, providing a completely new experience as a true pocket monster master, only in the medieval fantasy world of Skyrim.
Upon installing SkyPal, you’ll find three Skyspheres, the equivalent of Poké Balls, in the wizard Farengar’s room in Whiterun—your “starter monsters.” You can choose just one, as in the classic Pokémon games, or catch them all at once. There’s also a letter with the Skysphere’s lore, explaining its origin.

Features
- Creature Capture – To capture a monster, you must first weaken it and then hit it with a Skysphere. Each creature has a different maximum health—the rarer or more powerful it is, the harder it will be to capture.
- Smart Summon – Once captured, the creature can be summoned in several ways—by hitting enemies or objects with the Skysphere, or even by throwing the sphere (requires the Grab and Throw mod by powerofthree).
- Combat by Your Side – Monsters will fight any NPC hostile to you, but will not attack neutral NPCs—allowing you to bring them into towns without causing chaos.
- Permanent Companion – After summoning, the creature will follow and protect you, like Pikachu in Pokémon Yellow.
- Progression and Evolution – Creatures become stronger as you level up, and some can even evolve into more powerful forms (currently, only Chaurus can evolve).
- Collect Unique and Legendary Creatures – Explore Skyrim to capture rare and named monsters, making your collection unique.
- Craft New Skyspheres – You can forge new spheres in a special forge. Clues on how to create them can be found in the letter in Farengar’s room.
- Hybrid Experience – With SkyPal, Skyrim is turned into a mix of action-RPG and monster collecting, a different and creative way to revisit Tamriel.
Known limitations
As this is a relatively complex system, some limitations still exist: projectile collisions may fail, some creatures may not disappear correctly when “collected,” and unique icons may not display. Additionally, some creatures—such as Falmer, Draugr, Dragon Priests, and Rieklings—cannot be captured.

Installation and requirements
SkyPal depends on several mods and frameworks to function properly, including:
- Throwing Weapons Lite SE (the basis for the Skysphere throwing mechanic).
- CIF and OIF (essential frameworks).
- Formlist Manipulator (required for creating new spheres).
- Chickens and Rabbits Can Attack (so that chickens and rabbits can also fight).
The author recommends installing everything in the order indicated and using a mod manager to avoid conflicts.
